What a WET Saturday(210309)

Today is the YCIS Net Pulau Ubin Cycle trip. We assemble at 10am. I was late for the assemble.

Once everyone reached, we went down the stairs where we will be taking the boat towards Pulau Ubin. Each boat is only able to carry 12 passengers and 2 crew members including the driver and the assistant for the boat. Each ride cost $2.50.

When we reached there, we were told to visit the ladies/gents as the guided tour will not have toilet break. After the toilet break, we were briefed on what is going to happened next.

We went into the secret garden and discovered lots of new things. Durian have flowers and the flower smells of Durian(of cos la. If not smell of what). Then we saw Betel Nut Tree, Sea Almound Tree, Sea Hibiscus, Mangosteen tree, Coconut tree, many more.

After the guided tour, it was LUNCH TIME. We have to fill our stomach in order to get ready for our exciting part of this programme-The Cycle Trip. We were brief on the safety rules, how we being break into three groups and who to move first.

There will be a U-shaped curve where many accidents occurs, once we reached there, we were told to stop and push the bicycle down.

The bicycle rental was $5 for adult bicycle. But the brake function was so-so. I guess that is also part of the reason why we must be extra careful.

Going till the destination, Chek Jawa Wetlands was tough and tiring. Luckily there is a vending machine where they sell drinks and the security there to change coins for us. :P

We took a few minutes rest before we walk into the Chek Jawa where we get to see the outer part of Pulau Ubin. We walked into the Wetlands and discovered the hermit crabs crawling on the sand. Not 1 not 2 but many of them of different sizes. There is also a very unique species of bird that we chance upon, Oriental Pied Hornbill. It just flew above our head and was so close to us. Then it stopped at one of the trees and seems to know we were taking pictures of it. Posing for some snap shots before it flew to another tree. We also saw spider when we walked at the guided tour. Eye opening. The spider was so big and the string it produces was golden in colour.

Then we walk along the pathways till we reached the tall tower. This tower only allows 20 people climbing to the top. If over 20 pax, the tower will be shaky. I did not went up as there was more than 20 pax up the top.

After the climbing and walking, we came to an end where we once again back to the vending machine point. Haha...

I bought 2 more cans of drinks. Was amazed that the dustbin was flooded with cans and bottles. We rested for awhile before we started to cycle back. It was when the sky turns dark and started to drizzling.

Minutes later, it was heavy downpour with thunder and lightnings. I was so afraid when down the slope. It was very slippery and my leg slipped on the pedal twice. I hurt my right leg from the slipping. It was so painful. I was so afraid I might brake and just fly out of my bicycle. Hence I do not brake hard.

On off there is vans crossing and we have to brake to give way. There were also a group of boys who wouldn't give way to us. We almost hit some of them. To make matter worst, the rain gets heavier and we all wet through.

At first some stopped us and rested on the shelter. But one of them said, since we already wet through, no point wait for the rain to stop.

Hence I continued and by the time we reached the rental bicycle shop, we were all wet through and our leg is filled with mud marks. Haha..

As time pass, the rain gets heavier. We sheltered at the bicycle rental shop. After which we went to the coffeeshop for some drinks and chatted before we proceed back to the jetty for boat ride back home.

It was cold but fun. I promise to be careful. I succeeded. Hurray. :P What a WET Saturday and what an Unforgettable Saturday for the cycle trip. The road was not all smooth as this is a kampong place. There are some part of the route where it was either bumpy or muddy. But I went through without flying off my bicycle. So exciting. It was my first time here and certainly will never be last time here.

Soon I will come back there and maybe cycle alone? Hmm.. See how ba. :P
