Memories Of Alan Tham
My first contact with Alan was on Jan 2007 if I am not mistaken. It was the day I started my new permanent position and a day I am in full charge for all the data entry staff.
Initially, I had difficulties in talking to him through emails. As I am still new to them. Many things need them to help and teach me.
My first meeting with Alan was when that time their work computer in Bizlink was down where all connections failed. We arranged them to come over to office here to use and complete data entries.
It was on Day 2 that we force him to come over with the rest. My first impression of him was, he was a bubbly cute boy. He so cute. Initially I was super shy and he was siting just very near me. I didn't talk to him much. But I can feel that he is diligent and fast worker.
With him, we will never need to worry for any backlogs and all the tasks assigned to him, he can complete them within seconds. Well, to err is human. Whenever LI Dept people pin point his mistakes, we will fight it back and say afterall he had done numerous cases. The error rates was just minimal amount ba.
Well, I always believe when you did too many cases, you will have made some mistakes unintentionally. At times LI ppl even mentioned of replacing him. But we did not give him up as we know his efficiency and trusted he will help us throughout all obsticles.
During the surge, he help us to clear and he is the top data entry staffs among all the rest in Bizlink.
Little did we knew that his life was so short. The news of his departure shaken all those who knew him directly or indirectly.
When the first news that he is hospitalized due to lung infection few months ago, we worried for his health. Ever since then, he was posted fully home based data staff.
Also since then, bizlink staff did not met him unless there is any gathering that wish him to join.
And ever since then, our only contact with him was through emails. He will send emails for us to followup almost everyday.
Then came one day, my colleague Lili, discover that Alan seems to be missing in action as there is no emails from him. When emailed him, he did not reply when he usually will. Then we sense something is not very right.
She was correct. Alan was admitted to hospital on 21 April 2008 when he collaspsed while gasping for air. Ever since then, he was unconscious. We can never see he smile and hear his voice.
28 April 2008, he had thrice heart stopped beating. Doctor informed the family(his mother and his brother) that he was already brain dead as there was lack of oxygen to his brain for minutes while they trying to revive him. From then on, we all hope for miracles to fall on him. Hence, his mother uses all machines to keep him working.
Maybe was hoping and maybe was unable to accept the fact that he was already gone, we tends to tell ourselves that, he is moving, he can open his eyes and look around. He can move his hands and legs. He will soon able to talk to us. He can response to us by nodding.
But all these hopes ended on 2 May 2008 when he was pronouced dead. I do not know how and I do not know why. News came from his mother to Juliana. Juliana message me at 6:47pm to inform me this news.
It was too sudden and unable to accept the fact that he was really gone. I was totally shakened. When think of him, I will cry.
Alan, how are you? Hope you will be happy in the other world. It will take time for all of us to accept this cruel truth. We will miss you. Thanks for all that you had done to help us. Thanks.
